About Me

my story

Hi! I’m Alessia, I’m a Naturopathic Doctor in Toronto, and I help women reclaim their hormones naturally so they can live fully and without restrictions. Being healthy has never come easy for me - I’ve never enjoyed exercise, or making green smoothies, or making flourless bread - sorry guys, that’s just not me. I love coffee and wine, and Netflix binges on the couch with pad thai. You will never catch me doing morning meditations - I already wake up at 6am! I’m a busy, real-life person and I need my health strategies to be practical and realistic for my life.

When I was in my early 20s, I was finally diagnosed with PCOS - and boy oh boy was this diagnosis long overdue. I complained for YEARS about my acne, my periods, my mood - I was always anxious, and so many people wrote me off. There were times I genuinely thought I was crazy because nobody believed me. PCOS reared its ugly head in many ways for me, and showed up to torment my life daily. Ask my parents, sister, and friends how many nights I spent crying on the couch because there was just no way I was going out with 20+ cystic pimples on my face. My self-esteem was gutted.

Luckily I found naturopathic medicine, decided to become a Naturopathic Doctor, and found realistic strategies that actually worked for my life. My skin isn’t perfect, but I’ve had one cystic pimple in the last 6 months. My periods are regular. Once my hormones balanced, my mood found a healthy set point too. Most days I wake up feeling really great, and I completely forget I even have PCOS. Needless to say I’ve now dedicated my career to helping women struggling with their hormones just like me, so they can live their life the way they want to and the way they deserve to.

my practice

After completing my Honours degree in Psychology at Queen’s University, I decided to obtain my Doctor of Naturopathy Degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. While at the College, I was one of few selected to undergo additional training in Reproductive Health and Fertility, which only further confirmed my love of hormones. Through my clinical experience, I noticed hormone concerns were often accompanied by digestive and skin complaints, which propelled me to focus on hormone, digestive, and skin health. I strongly believe that the gut is the foundation of health in the body.

I am continuously undergoing additional training in hormone health, digestive health, fertility, and skin health to ensure my patients are receiving the best care possible. I've successfully worked with many individuals struggling with PCOS, acne, endometriosis, postpartum concerns, menopause, coming off birth control, unexplained infertility, weight loss resistance, thyroid concerns, and digestive complaints including IBS and SIBO.

I take an evidence-based, forward thinking approach with all of my patients, addressing both short and long term health goals. I highly emphasize the importance of lab testing and targeted treatment for each individual patient, so that we are truly uncovering the underlying cause and achieving lasting results. While my practice does have a focus on hormones, skin, fertility, and digestion, my door is open to anyone who is ready to make positive changes in their health.

If you’re on my site, welcome, and congratulations on taking your first step towards better health. If you feel you could be doing better and you’re ready to make a change, I would be honoured to work with you.

With loving compassion,

Dr. Alessia Milano, ND
